About Ashley Balseiro

Hello, and welcome to my e-portfolio. My name is Ashley, and I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling student at Grand Canyon University. I hold a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and a master's degree in Mental Health and Wellness with an emphasis in Grief and Bereavement.

Prior to pursuing counseling, I worked for several years as an investigator serving vulnerable adults. Through that experience, I developed a strong commitment to advocacy, ethical practice, and supporting individuals facing complex life challenges. These experiences strengthened my desire to help others in a more direct therapeutic role.

My counseling philosophy is rooted in the belief that every person possesses strengths and the capacity for growth. I strive to create a safe, collaborative, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. I view clients within the context of their relationships, family systems, culture, and life experiences, recognizing that these factors influence mental health and well-being.

My clinical interests include trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, family dynamics, and working with individuals experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges. As I continue my professional development, I am committed to providing culturally responsive, evidence-based care while fostering meaningful therapeutic relationships.

This portfolio highlights my academic work, professional growth, counseling skills development, and experiences throughout my journey toward becoming a licensed clinical mental health counselor. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and my commitment to the counseling profession.

Clinical philosophy and practice

I believe that people are resilient and capable of growth when provided with a safe, supportive, and collaborative therapeutic environment. I view clients within the context of what is going on rather than just focusing on symptoms or diagnoses. I believe it is important to take time to understand each client's unique story. I strive to meet clients where they are while helping them identify strengths, develop insight, and build practical skills that support meaningful change. My approach is primarily influenced by systemic and person-centered perspectives. I integrate evidence-based interventions that are developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive and tailored to each client's needs. I believe counseling should empower clients to increase self-awareness, strengthen resilience, improve relationships, and move toward lives that align with their values and goals.
